Sharon's Kuranda Rainforest Home

Sharon’s Kuranda Rainforest Home – North Queensland

Sharon’s Kuranda Rainforest Home sits within the breathtaking Wet Tropics of North Queensland, one of the most biodiverse regions in Australia. From this rainforest base, Sharon photographs wildlife across the country, capturing the beauty and diversity of Australia’s animals in their natural environments.

Before focusing on wildlife photography, Sharon also spent several years working as a wildlife carer, gaining valuable hands‑on experience caring for injured and orphaned animals. This time working directly with wildlife deepened her understanding of animal behaviour and strengthened her commitment to conservation — insights that continue to influence the way she approaches photography today.

The surrounding forest, creeks, and mountains provide daily encounters with an extraordinary variety of wildlife. Tropical birds, colourful butterflies, reptiles, and rainforest mammals all share this remarkable landscape, making it an inspiring place to observe and photograph nature.

While Sharon’s photography takes her across Australia in search of wildlife, Kuranda remains her home base. Her work often involves travelling long distances to reach remote locations and patiently waiting for the perfect moment. Whether sitting quietly beside a forest track, watching a flowering tree for visiting birds, or waiting for hours near a waterhole, Sharon understands that wildlife photography requires both persistence and respect for the animals she photographs.

It is this patience and deep appreciation for nature that allows her to capture intimate glimpses of wildlife behaviour. Through her lens, viewers are able to see animals not just as subjects, but as part of the living ecosystems that sustain them.

Living in the rainforest provides a constant reminder of the delicate balance that supports this incredible biodiversity. From tiny insects to towering trees and elusive mammals, every species plays a role in maintaining the health of this ancient environment.
